Lebanon’s information technology sector is expected to see an estimated 7% growth rate by the end of 2009, according to a recent note released by Mindwire, a leading IT distributor in the Middle East. The estimated growth potential in this sector is highlighted by its last year contribution to the market, which reached approximately US$ 251 million. As per the note, several factors are expected to contribute to the growth of Lebanon’s IT industry, headlined by extensive reforms being implemented across the country’s most important sectors such as telecoms, education, government, banking and media. Furthermore, the steady increase in digital subscriber line (DSL) users is also indicative of an imminent expansion of the domestic PC market. In response to this, Mindware urged IT providers in Lebanon to expand their scope to meet the growing IT requirements of the market. Seeing that computer sales reached an approximated number of 100,000 units in 2008, and taking in consideration that activities in the country’s IT sector are continuously on the increase, Mindwire indicated that this market has a substantial development potential, and therefore has a rapidly expanding need for more sophisticated hardware and applications designed for specific industries. Mindware is the first IT distributor in the Middle East to attain ISO 9001:2008 certification and its products include hardware components, networking and business solutions, with its services targeting regional markets including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Cyprus, and North Africa. Mindware also provides value-added distribution (VAD) services that include a whole range of networked services such as pre-sales consultancy, marketing, service implementation and after-sales support.
