Qatar to go ahead with $1bn subsea tunnel
  Posted on 3 Feb 2010
Qatar will proceed with plans for a 12km subsea tunnel linking Doha’s new airport with the city’s financial centre, it has been reported.

Gulf Times reported that feasibility study and concept design for the $1bn have been submitted by the Danish engineering consultants COWI.
These are now awaiting approval from the government’s Urban Planning Department, Jamal al-Kaabi, acting manager of the design department at Qatar’s Public Works Authority, told the paper.
“The road is under (the) Urban Planning Department for the concept design and then we will be taking that project for the detailed design and construction phase,” Al Kaabi said.
