GE power projects in Iraqi Kurdistan worth $200 million
  Posted on 19 Feb 2010
General Electric Co. announced it would join its partners in Iraqi Kurdistan to advance $200 million in power generation projects.
GE through its partners at Mass Global Investment Co. advanced the development of six gas-turbine power units for plants in Dahuk and Sulaymaniyah.
The projects are intended to meet the growing energy demand in the northern Kurdish provinces, the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq announced.
"They also support the Kurdistan Regional Government''s initiative for the private sector to help meet the energy requirements in this region," said Mass Global Chairman Ahmad Ismail.
GE and Mass Global have 1,000 megawatts of electricity installed currently. The $200 million addition increases the electricity capacity by approximately 1,750 megawatts.
The projects are to open during the second half of 2010, the KRG said.
