New Doha airport to create 50,000 jobs
  Posted on 2 Mar 2010
Some 50,000 jobs will be created when all the three phases of the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) are complete and the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity reaches a staggering 50 million.
These jobs will be administrative, managerial and operational in nature. This was disclosed by the chairman of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCA), Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi, in an interview with a local Arabic daily.
“Studies conducted by us reveal that when all the three phases of the NDIA are ready, 50,000 jobs will be created,” said the chairman.
He said the first and second phases of the NDIA will be opened by the end of next year and the airport’s passenger handling capacity will be 25 million.
The airport will be picturesque, aside from being really huge, as it will be surrounded by five artificial islands. It will have as many as 175 check-in counters, among other things.
One of the first airports to be designed with the new Airbus A-380 in mind, it will be the new home base for the Qatar Airways fleet when it replaces the existing Doha International Airport.
